Funding Options
In Australia, there are helpful government programs — both national and state-based — that can cover or greatly reduce the cost of a personal alarm for older people, those living with a disability, or anyone managing a long-term health condition. These alarms provide peace of mind by connecting you quickly to help in an emergency, whether you're at home or out and about.
CareAlert personal alarms can often be funded (fully or partly) through these main programs:
Support at Home (through My Aged Care)
This program helps older Australians stay safe and independent in their own homes, especially if there's been a recent change in health like a fall, hospital stay, or reduced mobility.
Who may qualify? Generally people aged 65+ (or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians) who need some extra support.
What it can cover: Personal alarms (including wearable options like watches with fall detection), setup, and ongoing 24/7 monitoring.
How to find out more: Start with a free assessment from My Aged Care — it's simple and friendly. Call 1800 200 422 or visit their website. If approved, we can help include your CareAlert alarm in your plan.
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
The NDIS supports people under 65 with a permanent disability to live life on their own terms, including staying safe at home or when out.
Who may qualify? Australians under 65 with a significant and permanent disability, if your NDIS plan includes funding for assistive technology or daily living supports.
What it can cover: CareAlert alarms (home-based or mobile), plus monthly monitoring — often with little or no extra cost to you.
How to find out more: Check your current NDIS plan or talk to your planner/coordinator. We're happy to provide quotes and details to help get it approved.
Personal Alert Assistance SA (PAASA) — South Australia only CLICK HERE for more info
This South Australian government scheme makes personal safety systems more affordable for eligible older residents, helping reduce feelings of isolation and worry about emergencies.
Who may qualify? SA residents aged 75+ (or 65+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) who hold a Pensioner Concession Card and have been assessed through My Aged Care.
What it can cover: Full funding for many home-based CareAlert alarms with fall detection, or partial support for mobile options — including round-the-clock monitoring.
How to find out more: Begin with a My Aged Care assessment, then apply through the SA Government concessions process. We have lots of experience helping PAASA participants get set up smoothly.
