Safety Used to Look Like
It's hard to believe โ but not so long ago, local councils were handing out blow whistles to elderly residents living alone. If they fell, their only option was to blow as hard as they could and hope a neighbour happened to hear them through the walls.
No monitoring. No GPS. No guarantee of help. Just a whistle โ and a hope.
and 35 Years of Safety
CareAlert is a proudly Australian, family-owned business โ and it was family that started it all.
Founder Mike Steele spent over 35 years as one of Australia's most passionate safety advocates, earning the nickname "The Safety Switch King" for his tireless work driving the nationwide adoption of safety switches that have saved countless Australian lives.
But it was a personal moment โ searching for a reliable, affordable personal alarm for his own elderly mother โ that changed everything. Mike looked at what was available and wasn't satisfied. The options were either too expensive, too complicated, or too unreliable. So he did what any determined father and son would do.
He built something better. In 2005, CareAlert was born.
Peace of Mind
CareAlert personal alarms exist for one clear purpose โ helping people maintain their independence while keeping help just a button press away, 24 hours a day.
The Safety Switch King
Long before CareAlert, Mike Steele was a household name in Australian safety. As the "Safety Switch King", he was a regular face on Australian television โ appearing alongside Bert Newton and other well-known personalities โ tirelessly campaigning for the safety switches that have saved countless Australian lives.
It's that same relentless passion for keeping Australians safe that eventually led Mike to found CareAlert in 2005. The product changed. The mission never did.
Two generations, one mission. Mike and Darren Steele run CareAlert together โ a father and son team united by the belief that every Australian deserves to feel safe and supported.
